Partially hydrogenated oils aka "Trans Fat" are used by food manufacturers to improve the texture, shelf life and flavor stability of foods.
Consuming trans fat in long terms causes cancers, heart disease and worst of all Alzheimer aka "brain shrinkage". Scientist found that those who had higher levels of trans fat
in their blood had smaller brains.
What food is it commonly found in? Baked goods. Most cakes, cookies, pie crusts, crackers, chips, cereals, cereal bars..etc
Here's why trans fat bothers me so much, these food companies don't even have to show on their label that their food contains trans fat. The worst part is actually finding a food that claims it has trans fat is the hardest thing ever. I only found 1 which was jewel baked cookies. Do you know why? Well because food companies don't actually have to say
trans is fat in their foods as long as they cut their serving size portion to make the trans fat in the food stay under .49g. So MANY companies just make the serving size smaller
and now they are a trans fat "Free Food" except their really not and eat 2 servings and you have 1 g of trans fat, eat more and well you get the point.
So even though these companies are getting away with putting this poison in our food there is a way to find out if there is trans fat in our food and I'm going to show you how.
First, check the fat if this is a completely fat free food with no fat whatsoever you are most likely safe, however if there is any fat stated in the total fat, saturated fat
or Cholesterol section of the ingredients then its time to check the ingredients and if you find hydrogenated, Partially hydrogenated and fully hydrogenated (yup some companies
have no shame) These ingredients mean there is trans fat in that food.
I also want to mention that it is suggest you only consume 2g of trans fat daily ( or none would be a safer bet) however trans fat naturally occurs in some meat and dairy so
if you eat meat and dairy on a daily basis its safe to assume you've already eaten the max amount of trans fat allowed.
Here's Why I'm most upset... Now I already new this about trans fat but its easy to forget and of course since the companies don't have to add or mention that there is trans fat
in your food as long as they change their serving size... well you sometimes forget. However this should not be taken lightly. Before trans fat came along cancers, heart disease
and Alzheimer where almost nonexistent. That should tell you a lot and if a slow long painful death is not in your agenda I would really remove trans fat from your life.
